Changes to the iconic ‘ILoveNY’ logo as Tourism Division set out to educate the UK on the …’Many More Reasons to Love New York!’

10.11.2008

New York State Division of Tourism has made changes to one of the world’s most iconic logos to ensure the recognition of the brand beyond New York City. This fresh makeover takes one of the world’s most iconic logos in a new direction that will help create awareness for the many unique highlights on offer throughout the State of New York, an area the size of France with 11 regions.

It’s been 31 years since the ‘ILoveNY’ brand was initially launched and research carried out by New York State Division of Economic Development proved that over 95% of the population look upon ‘ILoveNY’ as an urban brand representing New York City. The changes to the famous logo are designed to promote the diversity of the State and enhance the current logo. The enhancements include symbols such as grass, a butterfly and a squirrel to symbolize the State’s natural assets, grapes to symbolize the State’s wineries and culinary offerings, snow to promote the many winter activities on offer, and a leaf to promote the Fall Foliage season.

The logos used in conjunction with imagery are intended to reflect the unique highlights throughout the State. New York State boasts the most ski-able areas in the US, 50 in total (it’s the only State in America to have held the Winter Olympics twice!). It also has the longest Fall Foliage season in the US, boasts two of America’s top 10 voted beaches and over 240 vineyards (The 3rd largest wine producing wine region in America). Letchworth State Park is bigger than Yosemite or Yellow Stone and the Adirondack Park is the largest park, federal or state, in the United States outside of Alaska covering some 9,375 square miles! That’s Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks combined. Other unique opportunities also include freshwater shipwreck diving in the Thousand Islands-Seaway region and world-class fishing in over 7,500 lakes and ponds and 80,000km of rivers and streams.

The Tourism Division has also developed a selection of nine thematic brochures focusing on the highlights. Called the ‘Go-guides to New York State’, these brochures cover outdoor adventure, scenic drives, food and wine, water-based activities, state parks, fall foliage, winter, unique lodgings and fishing. The Go-guides are available through the Tourism Division’s UK Office – call 020 7629 6891.
